Position Summary:

We are looking for a qualified individuals who are interested in a position with a community based Public Safety Department. Members of the GPP Public Safety Department are responsible for both police and fire services, where officers in the agency are responsible for protecting citizens and property from harm, crime prevention, emergency response, traffic enforcement and fire suppression. Essential Functions:

  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Enforce the city ordinances, state and federal laws while abiding by the Directives of the Grosse Pointe Park Public Safety Department.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations at incident scenes, interview suspects and witnesses, document and compose reports in a clear and concise manor, investigate and document traffic accidents and communicate information to investigators.
  • Patrol the community roadways observing conditions and taking enforcement action as needed.
  • Attend court cases and testify as needed.
  • Respond to fire, rescue, and medical calls for service.
  • Conduct fire suppression.
  • Inform general public on laws and ordinances.
  • Attend training classes relative to their duties.
  • Act as jailer, searching, receiving and processing prisoners.
  • Act as a dispatcher when required.
  • Interact with the public in a variety of situations.

Requirements:

  • Citizen of the United States
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License
  • Ability to meet physical, academic and psychological standards of the Michigan Commission of Law Enforcement Standards.
  • No felony convictions
  • Willingness to work shift work (12 hours shifts), including nights, holidays and weekends.
