9-1-1 Dispatcher – Public Safety Telecommunicator

Salary: $9,652.50 – $13,518.00 Annually.

Position Summary:

To receive 9-1-1 emergency calls, determine appropriate responses, dispatch necessary services, and be the critical life-saving link between emergency responders and the communities they serve.

Essential Functions:

  1. Receives 9-1-1 emergency calls, evaluates the circumstances, and provides appropriate responses.
  2. Provides pre-arrival instruction to 9-1-1 callers and dispatches emergency services.
  3. Coordinates response of emergency services.
  4. Provides support and resources to field outlets.
  5. Provides radio communication for Police, Fire, and EMS units.
  6. Pages on-call personnel for County/municipal agencies when needed.
  7. Maintains confidential files and procedure records for department.
  8. Operates computer and technical equipment and provides basic equipment maintenance.
  9. Interacts with general public, department, and emergency services.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional training in computers, emergency services, and/or prior dispatch training is desirable.
  • Applicant must clear a fingerprint based criminal background check.
  • One to two (1-2) years’ experience in communications, emergency services, or other fast paced, computerized customer service-related field is favorable.
  • Emergency Medical Technician certification and CPR certification preferred.
  • Must possess or obtain, during our provided training period, and continue to maintain certification in APCO Basic Dispatch Emergency Medical Dispatch, Fire Dispatch, and Law Enforcement Dispatch, as well as PEMA in-house certification, CLEAN Terminal Operator certification, and other continuing education.
