Salary: $21.79 – 24.50 per hour.

Position Summary:

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is seeking motivated individuals that are interested in a career in law enforcement. Selected candidates will be given on the job, paid training and experience in the corrections division working three to four (3-4) 12-hour shifts per week with every other weekend (Fri-Sun) off.

Essential Functions:

  • Monitors the daily activities of inmates.
  • Distributes meals, medication, personal, and other items to inmates.
  • Patrols cell blocks in order to ensure to the security, health, and welfare of inmates.
  • Communicates with inmates during the booking process.
  • Search, fingerprint, obtain DNA, and photograph inmates during intake.
  • Prepare and maintain records related to inmate health, booking, and incidents.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries from government agencies, courts, and the general public.
  • Demonstrate regular and predictable timely attendance.
  • Maintain required licensure and certification.


  • High school diploma or equivalency (GED).
  • No felony convictions.
  • Pass drug screen and background check.
  • Pass CVSA (lie detector) test.
  • Possess State of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license.
