Patrol Officer
Salary range: $19.71.

Position Summary:
Performs law enforcement and police department duties involving the protection of life and property through the enforcement of state laws and university rules and regulations.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for performing law enforcement activities; to include but not limited to enforcing federal, state, and local laws and USM rules and regulations.
- Responds to all emergency calls involving crimes, disturbances, accidents, personal injuries, fires, and natural disasters.
- Responsible for investigating crimes and violations of USM rules and regulations, accidents, etc.
- Engages with the community in proactive police activities to prevent crimes, disorder, property loss, accidents, etc.
- Responsible for providing a wide range of community services involving traffic and crowd control, security at special events, crisis intervention, referrals, escorts, motorist assistance, public information, emergency notification, and medical assistance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High School graduate or equivalent G.E.D.
- Valid Mississippi Driver’s License.
- Mississippi Law Enforcement Certification or graduate of a Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy.
- Ability to use a personal computer and associated software, police radio, firearms, investigative equipment and resources, photographic and video equipment, basic office equipment.
- Ability to use spreadsheet software and use of video and other software applications.
- Basic knowledge and skill within Windows-based computer and software applications, to include Microsoft Office applications, and the ability to use email to send and receive correspondence, proficiency in use of search engines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Requirements:
- Associate’s Degree and/or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Six months to one year of patrol officer experience with a law enforcement agency.
