Starting Deputy Base Pay

  • $66,300 a year (as of 2024 contract)

2 Years Base Pay
Earn an educational incentive of:

  • 12% with 60 college credits = $79,072
  • 18% with Bachelor’s degree = $83,304
  • 22% with Master’s degree = $86,112

5 Years Base Pay

  • 60 college credits and longevity = $88,315
  • Bachelor’s degree and longevity = $92,917
  • Master’s degree and longevity = $95,998
    • (26% with Master’s degree in a Supervisory position at the DCSO)

Top Deputy Base Pay Including Longevity and Educational Incentive Pay

  • 60 college credits = $ 107,932
  • Bachelor’s Degree = $113,041
  • Master’s Degree = $116,434

All Salaries are estimates based on 1950 hours per year. Additional compensation and overtime are not included. See DCDSA collective bargaining agreement for details.

Deputy Sheriff Minimum Qualifications

  • Be a United States citizen at the time of appointment
  • Be at least 21-years-old upon appointment
  • High school graduate, or equivalent
  • Have a minimum of two years of full-time school, employment or military experience
  • Have a minimum of a 2-year college degree or 60 college credits by your 5 year anniversary
    (This is a state of Wisconsin requirement. There is currently a proposed amendment to the WI statutes which would eliminate this grace period for education and make 60 college credits a mandatory requirement for new law enforcement officers.)
  • Be eligible for a valid Wisconsin Driver’s license and be licensed by date of appointment
