Police Officer Requirements – Minnesota

Minimum Requirements to be a Police Officer in Minnesota

Age At least 21 years old
Citizenship U.S. citizen
Education High School Diploma or G.E.D

Other Requirements

  • Possess a valid Minnesota driver’s license
  • Complete a comprehensive written application
  • Submit to a thorough background search
  • Not registered as a predatory offender
  • No felony convictions / criminal offenses / narcotics or controlled substance law violations
  • Comply w/ fingerprinted requirements
  • Undergo a thorough medical examination
  • free from any emotional or mental condition which might adversely affect the performance of peace officer duties
  • Pass a job-related examination of the applicant’s physical strength and agility
  • Successfully complete an oral examination
  • Pass the POST Licensing Exam / POST Reciprocity Licensing Exam.
