Telecommunicator
Salary: $33.04-$41.85Hourly
Position Summary:
The Telecommunicator is responsible for all duties that are associated with our regional emergency communications center. Telecommunicators are tasked with monitoring a variety of radio channels and telephone lines, processing emergency and non-emergency calls for service, and performing ministerial duties relative to public-safety communications.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for management and proper operation of all equipment and systems associated with our regional emergency communications center.
- Monitors and processes all calls for service received through our regional emergency communications center in accordance with dispatch standards and standard operating procedures and Massachusetts regulation 560 CMR 5.00.
- Performs all associated duties in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ensures complete, accurate, and timely call-creation in our CAD system when applicable.
- Accurately documents all matters related to the position as they occur.
- Participates in all training required of the Telecommunicator position.
- Assists in the training of new telecommunicators, 9-1-1 call takers, and CMED operators upon qualification as needed.
- Reviews all applicable policies and procedures of the agency on a schedule set forth by the Director of Emergency Communications or Assistant Director of Emergency Communications.
- Complies with all policies and procedures associated with the regional emergency communications center and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office.
- Observes the chain of command and following all lawful orders of superiors.
- Conducts themselves at all times, in a professional, courteous and ethical manner befitting an employee of this agency.
- Ability to work well with others, teamwork is the cornerstone in the delivery of emergency services in the Communications Division.
- Actively participates in shift coverage for any vacancy that may occur, this may include forced overtime.
- Performs all duties related to the position of CMED operator and 9-1-1 call taker as needed.
Requirements:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent certificate is required.
- CPR and First Responder certification is required. Certifications can be obtained through on-the-job training(s).
- APCO-PST1 certification is required.
- A minimum of years (1) years of experience in public safety dispatching or call taking is preferred.
- APCO-EMD certification is preferred but not required.
- Or equivalent education and experience.
- Experience Pay is available.
