Position Summary:
Serves as a Telecommunicator responding to emergency and non-emergency calls to for assistance and information. Providing dispatch and communication support services for police, fire, emergency and related services.
Essential Functions:
- The Telecommunicator answers 9-1-1 and other incoming phone calls and process requests for Police, Fire and EMS with accuracy and in accordance with established written directives and practices.
- Promptly and courteously communicates with citizens and member agency personnel while assisting them.
- Accurately performs data entry on requests for service, tracking unit status, and other information provided by field personnel while verifying key details including address, nature, and caller information.
- Efficiently operates a variety of communications center equipment and software including but not limited to: Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), telephone system, radio, call check, mapping programs, messaging, and available resources.
- Able to become certified in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Enhanced Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) and perform case entry and provide pre-arrival instructions while following agency protocols.
- Obtain certifications in CPR, NIMS, LEADS as well as any other certification program appropriate to the position.
- Monitors several radio channels and dispatches calls to appropriate police and/or fire units (determined by primary certification) via radio and coordinates additional responses needed.
- Performs routine notifications to outside agencies, including but not limited to utilities, public works, governmental agencies, business, and citizens.
- Successfully complete the certification training program for the position.
- Complies with the orders, policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the IKE 911 Center.
- Follows written and verbal instructions.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by Director or Command Staff.
- Dispatch Police units to requests for services over radio system and record information, and process additional requests.
- Determine and assign the level of priority of the call and enter the data into a computer-aided dispatch system.
- Achieve and maintain Full Access certification in L.E.A.D.S (Law Enforcement Agent Data System), and perform all functions, including inquiries and hot file maintenance.
- Must understand jurisdictional boundaries, as well as thoroughfares, landmarks, public buildings, and waterways within the jurisdiction.
- Alert and dispatch fire units for requests for service over the radio system by properly activating a variety of alerting systems and processing additional requests as needed.
- Performs mutual aid dispatching of fire units.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Schedule flexibility must have the ability to work any of the three shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be of strong moral and ethical character.
- Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in the English language, including the proper usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
