Sheriff’S Deputy I – Iii
Salary: $46,800 – $50,960 – $58,240
Position Summary:
Performs protective service work enforcing laws, investigating criminal activity, serving civil papers, ensuring the safety of the public, testifying in court, maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the assigned departmental supervisor.
Essential Functions:
- Operates a patrol vehicle to observe violations of laws, suspicious activities or persons, and disturbances; responds to calls for service.
- Enforces traffic laws; issues citations for traffic violations; performs radar enforcement, DUI checks, traffic control, motorist assists, etc.
- Serves civil process and criminal arrest warrants and a variety of other court papers and directions. Transports prisoners, detainees, mental patients, etc. to appointments, court, etc. as assigned.
- Prepares records and reports of activity.
- Assists other law enforcement and emergency agencies in controlling emergency situations.
- Performs a variety of special tasks and duties such as desk officer, training officer, K-9, investigations, SRO/D.A.R.E., maritime and waterborne operations, etc., or other special assignments as qualified and assigned.
- Interviews victims and witnesses; secures property and evidence.
- Serves as a first responder; responds to emergency medical services calls and provides basic life support.
- Respond to radio dispatches and answer calls and complaints.
- Testifies in court.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must pass a thorough background investigation.
- Must possess strong ethical and character traits.
- Must possess the highest level of integrity.
- Must obtain certification by the North Carolina Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission.
- Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification is preferred, but not required.
