Sheriff Patrol Deputy
Base Pay:
$29.71 – $37.88 / Hour
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Sergeant, the Patrol Deputy is responsible for enforcing all federal, state and local laws, statutes, and ordinances within the County to serve and protect citizens of the County and to promote public safety. Duties of the Patrol Deputy include such major responsibilities as patrolling assigned portions of the County; enforcing laws and regulations; traffic and DUI enforcement; serving civil process papers; responding to civil or criminal complaints, disturbances or emergency assistance; conducting accident investigations; or other assignments, as delegated.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Patrols Steele County to preserve law and order and to prevent and/or discover the commission of crime.
- Enforces all provisions of federal and state laws and local ordinances.
- Recognizes problem areas within the County.
- Performs community policing and patrols contracted cities (i.e. City of Medford. Ellendale, etc.) to maintain visibility and contracted provisions.
- Provides security checks to businesses and residences. Monitors, observes, investigates and takes actions for suspicious persons, nuisances, obstructions, or conditions that may endanger the health and or safety of citizens
- Performs traffic enforcement duties and responsibilities.
- Enforcement traffic laws, statutes and ordinances.
- Monitors and conducts DUI enforcement.
- Responds to and investigates crashes and accidents.
- Maintains training on DWI updates, case laws and accidents.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associates Degree with major field of study or degree emphasis in Corrections, Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Behavior/Social Science, or closely related field
- Valid Driver’s License
- Minnesota Peace Officer License
- Other training and certifications required by Department after hire
- Ability to pass a background check
