Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Sheriff Detention Officer to join our team. As a Sheriff Detention Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing inmates and maintaining security within the detention facility. Your primary duty will be to ensure the safety and well-being of inmates, staff, and visitors. You will be expected to enforce rules and regulations, maintain order, and respond quickly and effectively to any security breaches or emergencies.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain security within the detention facility by monitoring inmate activities, conducting regular patrols, and enforcing rules and regulations.
  • Conduct searches, both routine and targeted, to prevent the introduction of contraband or unauthorized items into the facility.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records, including incident reports, daily logs, and inmate counts.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to any security breaches or emergencies, including fights, injuries, or medical emergencies.
  • Provide assistance and support to inmates as needed, including escorting them to and from court appearances, medical appointments, and other outside appointments.
  • Collaborate with other staff members, such as correctional officers, medical staff, and support personnel, to ensure the effective operation of the facility.
  • Attend and participate in required trainings, seminars, and meetings to stay updated on policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Uphold the highest standards of professional conduct and ethics, treating all individuals with dignity, respect, and fairness.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Prior experience in law enforcement, security, or corrections is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to handle potentially dangerous situations.
  • Good judgment and ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong ethical standards and integrity.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
