Essential Functions:

  • To enforce all local, state and federal laws on Mississippi Valley State University.
  • Perform all duties of police officer as well as supervise, coordinate and guide police officers and other department employees in their daily activities.
  • Supervise police officers in the performance of regularly assigned patrol and incident investigations; prepare shift notices and assignments; conduct pre-hire evaluations of prospective police officer candidates; conduct performance evaluations; make recommendations in matters concerning employee discipline and retention.
  • Review police documentation including incident and accident reports and daily logs for accuracy and compliance with criminal, motor vehicle and traffic laws with University regulations.
  • Assist shift commanders in establishing procedures; makes recommendations regarding improvements or changes in department operations. Conduct accident and crime investigations and prepare detailed reports, including State Motor Vehicle Accident Reports and State Uniform Incident Reports.
  • Provide public assistance, including lockout services, escorts, first aid, and vehicle jump-starts.
  • Process evidence, prepare court documents, and provide legal testimony.
  • Conduct inspections of police personnel and equipment; issues and account for police equipment.
  • Represent the department at community and business meetings. Serve as Campus Security Authority as outline by Clery Act.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must have a State of Mississippi Law enforcement certification from a State training academy.
  • Must have a valid State of Mississippi drivers license.
  • Must not have any domestic violence or felony convictions, or DUI on your record.
  • Must have at lest 5 years of law enforcement experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Have at least three (3) years of supervisory experience.
