Position Summary:

The City of Havre de Grace, Maryland, is seeking highly qualified individuals who are interested in a career in law enforcement. Our Police Officers are dedicated and committed to providing quality service to the community, and recruits must possess the highest standards of personal and professional integrity, commitment, and dependability. Qualified applicants will undergo rigorous testing and evaluation before being considered for a future class in a certified Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission Police Academy.

Essential Functions:

  • Participates in all required training, both at the Police Academy and on-the-job, to learn the duties of and maintain the proficiency requirements for the classification of Police Officer
  • Performs general patrol duties in a vehicle and on foot
  • Conducts initial and follow up investigations of crimes and other incidents and events
  • Identifies and determines possible solutions to community crime problems
  • Enforces traffic laws and ordinances and investigates traffic accidents
  • Arrests and detains persons
  • Provides administrative and technical support throughout the department
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 20 1/2 years old to apply and 21 years old upon completion of the Police Academy
  • Must have a high school diploma, GED, or appropriate equivalent
  • Must be a citizen of the United States
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass the written examination
  • Must be able to pass the physical agility examination
  • Must successfully complete the psychological evaluation and polygraph examination
  • Must successfully complete the background investigation process
  • Must successfully complete a physical and medical examination
  • If hired, must successfully complete a certified Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission Police Academy
