Salary: $23.10 Hourly.

Position Summary:

This is a non-exempt position that reports directly to the Shift Sergeant of Public Safety. Under the general direction of the shift sergeant, performs a full range of police duties necessary to enforce the law. Investigates complaints, maintains order, aids individuals, and identifies criminal offenders. Identifies law enforcement problems, resolves conflicts, and provides other police services to the public as necessary. Performs a variety of unplanned physical tasks, which include the restraint of violent individuals. Decisions within areas of responsibility are made independently. Supervision received is general, and daily work plans are established with periodic review of progress. There is frequent interaction with the general public.

Essential Functions:

  • Begins patrolling assigned areas and conducts checks and monitoring process for all aspects within the City.
  • Responds to notification of incidents/accidents and reports at scene, assuring timeliness and safety. Gathers preliminary incident information. Makes determination to proceed. Proactively monitors environment looking for criminal activity.
  • Responds appropriately to incidents/accidents assuring that departmental procedures are followed, assuring safety and professionalism.
  • Completes and submits reports to supervisors as required, assuring timeliness and accuracy.
  • Receives assignment and responds, as requested, assuring professionalism and the best public relations for the City.
  • Responds to radio announced and/or self-identified incident and coordinates with other units as needed.
  • Responds appropriately and notifies dispatcher of arrival on scene. Takes appropriate enforcement or controls action as required, assuring departmental procedures are followed and assuring safety.
  • Notifies dispatcher of status and begins investigation of offense.
  • Completes investigation and makes determination regarding enforcement action required, gathers evidence as needed, and completes reports and documentation as required, assuring timeliness and accuracy.
  • If needed, makes arrests and handles prisoners, assuring officer and public safety, and assuring departmental procedures are followed.
  • Completes initial booking procedures. Conducts and completes any required follow-up activities.

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • State of Missouri POST license.
  • Firearm certified.
  • CPR and first aid.
  • Must be 21.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and non-convicted felon.
  • Specialist training for SRO (School Resource Officer) initially and annually.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
