Police Supervisor

Salary: $61,465.00 – $68,184.00 Annually

Position Summary:

Employees in this classification serving as police supervisors oversee the public safety services work of subordinate officers and other public safety staff and contract security. They conduct on-the-job training to develop public safety knowledge and skills for all subordinate personnel and may assist in the conduct of a formal training program for new employees.

Essential Functions:

1. Organize work for subordinate public safety personnel and direct patrol activities for the shift
2. Serve as the initial on-scene commander for all emergency situations and incidents on campus.
3. Coordinate necessary emergency activities with external agencies and internal departments that are required as assigned by the Director of Public Safety.
4. Serve as intake officer relative to any complaints from employees, students or the public regarding the action of the department and/or officers assigned to the shift being supervised.
5. Review reports and criminal complaints completed by officers assigned to the shift being supervised.
6. Provide formal and informal evaluation of the performance of public safety personnel assigned to the shift being supervised consulting with the
7. Director of Public or other superior police leader as appropriate or directed.
8. Make necessary overtime assignments for the shift being supervised and/or shift following the supervised shift in accordance with established department policies and guidelines.
9. Supervise and teach community policing & problem-solving activities of personnel assigned
10. Formally communicate with the Director of Public Safety and/or the subsequent shift supervisor on a daily basis regarding shift activities and issues.
11. Approve leave requests of subordinate officers on the supervised shift within established department, university and collective bargaining guidelines.
12. By virtue of their leadership role and responsibilities within the public safety department, are often involved in, and may assist with, all aspects of public safety, emergency management and environmental health and safety.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• One year as a Police Specialist or two years of police work including one year at a supervisory level or one year of advanced technical police work AND formal training in the provision of basic police services as certified through Act 120 Training, OR any equivalent experience or training.
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle operator’s license.
• Ability to meet such qualifications regarding strength, agility and health as may be required.
