Police Sergeant
Salary: $73,377.82.
Position Summary:
Conducts complete and objective administrative investigations of alleged employee misconduct including allegations of criminal law violations, civil rights violations, or departmental policy violations. Manages and ensures compliance with state certification and CALEA accreditation.
Essential Functions:
- Conducts internal affairs investigations to ascertain facts and obtain evidence on alleged violations and misconduct.
- Interviews involved parties and obtains statements; Collects and reviews the evidence.
- Prepares comprehensive and detailed reports of investigations.
- Testifies in administrative hearings.
- Maintains a level of understanding and familiarity with the department’s policies and procedures, county personnel policy, county ordinances, state laws, and case law sufficient to perform the assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Manages and ensures departmental compliance with GACP state certification and CALEA accreditation standards.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED; supplemented by 40 semester college hours from an accredited college/university or have obtained at least 400 hours of advanced law enforcement-related training or a combination of college hours and training hours to equal 400 equivalent training hours.
- A minimum of five (5) years of previous law enforcement experience, including one (1) year experience with internal affairs investigations and 18 months experience as a police supervisor at the rank of Sergeant or higher.
- Must possess and maintain valid Georgia P.O.S.T. Peace Officer certification or be eligible to obtain certification through the equivalency of the training process.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
