Position Summary:

The purpose of this job is to obtain basic training and understanding in municipal law enforcement principles and procedures. Under the direction of the Pooler Police Department, the Police Recruit will be responsible for attending, participating, and successfully completing an approved Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Council (P.O.S.T.) Basic Law Enforcement Training Program. Once the Police Recruit successfully completes the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program, they will move to the position of Police Patrol Officer. The Police Recruit must successfully complete the Field Training Program provided by the Pooler Police Department in addition to the completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Academy.

This position is Full-Time Temporary during the Basic Law Enforcement Academy and full benefits will be offer upon designation of Police Patrol Officer.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education or GED.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of a field training program or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Police Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain GCIC/NCIC certification.
