Police Officer Trainee

Position Summary:

Learn to perform responsible police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Completes B.LE.T training at a local school, and then Field Training as Sworn Officer. Positions involve patrolling of assigned areas, accident and crime scene investigations, collection and preservation of physical evidence, follow-up investigations and special assignments for the purpose of the prevention of crime, apprehension of offenders and enforcement of laws and ordinances. Police officer must be able to act without direct supervision using independent judgment and discretion in meeting emergency and non-emergency situations. Duties are performed in accordance with law and departmental directives. Work involves extensive public contacts and situations of personal danger. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a Sergeant.

Essential Functions:

• Attend, and successfully complete BLET at an accredited and Pineville PD approved educational institution in the timeframe required
• Effectively and professionally communicate, verbally and in written form
• Assist with needs and tasks of the Pineville PD and other Town departments as time permits
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; enrolled in or completed BLET.
• Must be 20years of age by the date of certification.
• Must be in good physical condition with no obvious condition which will impair the performance of duty.
• Must pass a physical examination, and physical fitness assessment.
• Must meet vision, hearing, and other physical requirements.
• Must be a United States citizen.
• No felony convictions and no serious misdemeanor convictions in the past five years.
• Valid driver’s license required; no suspensions of driving privileges in the past three years.
• Must satisfactorily pass a thorough background investigation.
• Must satisfactorily pass a polygraph examination.
• Must satisfactorily pass a psychological evaluation.
• Must satisfactorily pass a screening test for drugs.
