Police Officer Trainee
Salary: $24.43–$31.28 (Hourly, Non-Exempt)
Position Summary:
Police Officer Trainee is a non-sworn, temporary classification intended to prepare individuals to become sworn police officers. Under general supervision, trainees attend a rigorous, high-stress, and physically demanding basic police academy designed to qualify them as police officers. Trainees must maintain minimum proficiency standards and fulfill all requirements necessary for appointment to the position of Police Officer.
Essential Functions:
• Attend, participate, and successfully complete the Basic Peace Officer’s Academy, maintaining at least minimum levels of proficiency at all levels of training.
• Receive and practice instructions covering the identification and utilization of techniques and principles that encourage community service, crime prevention, and appropriate behavior.
• Provide staff support for police activities by performing various administrative and patrol duties.
• Fulfill all necessary requirements for appointments to the position of Police Officer
Requirements:
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Age: Must be 21 years or older at the completion of the academy.
• Reading and writing ability: determined by job related tests.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
• Language: Read and write English. Fluency in Spanish highly desirable.
• Driver’s License: Valid CA driver’s license and good driving record.
• Criminal Conviction: No conviction of a felony offense, misdemeanor domestic violence offense or of any offense which resulted from a domestic violence incident. Require fingerprinting.
• Moral Character: Must be of good moral character as determined by a thorough peace officer background investigation.
• Physical and Psychological Fitness: Must be free from any physical, mental, or emotional condition which might adversely affect performance as a peace officer.
