Salary: $58,211 to $78,553.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of their Shift Supervisor/OIC, Police Officers shall be responsible for the efficient performance of their duties in conformance with the rules, regulations, and policies.

Essential Functions:

  • Identify criminal offenders and criminal activity and, where appropriate, apprehend offenders and participate in subsequent court proceedings.
  • Reduce the opportunities for the commission of crime through preventive patrol and other measures.
  • Aid individuals who are in danger of physical harm.
  • Facilitate the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
  • Identify problems that are potentially serious law enforcement or governmental problems.
  • Create and maintain a feeling of security in the community.
  • Promote and preserve the peace.
  • Provide other services on an emergency basis.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Exercise authority consistent with the obligations imposed by their oath of office and be accountable to their superior officers, promptly obeying legitimate orders.
  • Coordinate efforts with those of other members of the Department so that their teamwork may ensure continuity of purpose and maximum achievement of police objectives.
  • Communicate to superiors and to fellow officers all information he/she may obtain which is pertinent to the achievement of police objectives.
  • Respond punctually to all of their assignments.
  • Acquire, by reading logs, reports and e-mails, information concerning events that have taken place since their last tour of duty.
  • Record their activity during their tour of duty in the manner prescribed by their superiors. Complete detailed reports on all crimes, vehicle accidents and other incidents requiring police attention. In cases where an arrest is made, an arrest report is submitted along with the required crime reports. When property is recovered or additional information is discovered pertaining to a previously reported offense, the officer completes an investigation report.
  • Maintain assigned weapons and equipment in a functional, presentable condition, and immediately report defects, damage or loss of department equipment to the shift supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen (birth or naturalization)
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent Preference will be given to those candidates that have a college degree(s), military experience, or combination.
  • Must have completed a full-time MPTC Police Academy, in accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 41, Section 96B.
  • Must have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
  • Have the ability to obtain an unrestricted Massachusetts Class A Firearms License.
  • Have the ability to pass the Psychical Abilities Test (PAT’s), and psychological fitness for duty examination after receiving a conditional offer of employment (see PAT info below).
  • Have a strong character background.
  • Be willing and able to meet the duties and obligations of a Lakeville Police Officer.
  • Must live within 15 miles of Lakeville (as the crow flies, border to border), prior to the end of your “Probationary Period” (one year upon successful completion of the Field Training Program).
  • Not be a convicted felon, or have convictions from another jurisdiction that would be treated as a felony in the Commonwealth.
  • Not smoke and stay a non-smoker. Smoking tobacco products is prohibited as outlined by G.L. Chapter 41 Section 101A of the Massachusetts General Laws.
  • Must pass thorough background investigation.
