Police Officer (Lateral/TCOLE Certified)
Salary: $64,735.72 – $90,302.14 Annually.
Essential Functions:
- Patrols an assigned area to detect criminal activities, suspicious circumstances, traffic and ordinance violations and hazard to life or property.
- Interviews complainants, witnesses and other individuals to establish a network of information to determine the validity of a complaint.
- Detects violations, makes violator contacts, issues citations or warnings and places violators in custody, as appropriate.
- Responds to calls for service, analyzing criminal, emergency and law violators to determine the best method of handling.
- Determines sufficiency of evidence to justify a search and/or arrest.
- Handles suspects, law violators and prisoners according to departmental policies and procedures and uses effective law enforcement techniques.
- Conducts preliminary accident and offense investigations and writes required reports.
- Conducts routine checks of prisoners confined in the City Jail.
- Coordinates calls for service with fire, street and animal control personnel, as needed.
- Participates in community oriented programs.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required with 60 college hours from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Must be a basic TCLEOSE certified Peace officer in good standing.
- A minimum of 2 years qualified street experience is preferred.
- Valid state driver’s license required.
- Be a US Citizen
- Have a High School diploma or GED
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Honorable Discharge from the US Military (if applicable)
- Have no convictions for any level offense involving Family Violence
- Have no Class B Misdemeanor Offense convictions within the last 10 years
- Have no Class A Misdemeanor Offense or above conviction in applicant’s lifetime
- Not prohibited by State or Federal Law from operating a Motor Vehicle
- Not prohibited by State or Federal Law from possessing firearms or ammunition
