Police Officer – Lateral or POST Academy Graduate Only
Salary: $39.53 – $50.45 Hourly.
Position Summary:
Under general supervision, to perform law enforcement investigation and crime prevention work; to control traffic flow and enforce State and local traffic regulations; to perform preliminary investigative work; and to do related work as required. Assignments can include patrol, investigations, school resource officer, undercover, field training.
Essential Functions:
- Patrols designated area in radio dispatch car on assigned shift.
- Answers calls for the protection of life and property, and the enforcement of City, County, and State laws.
- Stops drivers operating vehicles in violation of laws.
- Warns drivers against unlawful practices and issues citations.
- Observes assigned area for suspicious acts and unsafe conditions.
- Regulates traffic flow at times of emergency or congestion.
- Gives information and directions to the public.
- Prepares and executes arrest, search warrants.
- Administers first aid.
- Prepares reports of arrests made, investigations conducted, and unusual incidents observed.
- Assists in receiving, searching, booking, fingerprinting, and transporting prisoners.
- Performs security checks of buildings.
- Testifies in court.
- Conditions preliminary and follow-up investigations at the scene of crimes and accidents.
- Collects and preserves evidence.
- Receives telephone requests for assistance and dispatches officers.
- Maintains log, takes reports and assists the public with complaints.
- Maintains contact with citizens regarding potential law enforcement problems and preserves good relationships with the public.
- Reviews and investigates crime reports.
- Conducts interviews with suspects, victims, and witnesses.
- May investigate major crimes.
- May act as School Resource Officers including classroom presentations.
- Performs related duties as required.
Requirements:
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
- Completion of Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) accredited Basic Academy or Lateral Officer.
- Possession of First Aid Certificate issued by the American Red Cross must be obtained within one year of appointment; CPR Certificate required.
- Possession of a valid and appropriate California driver’s license.
