Police Officer: Lateral or Academy Trained
Salary: $88,068 – $106,992.
Position Summary:
The Police Officer is a sworn position under the direction of a supervisory officer. The Police Officer performs a variety of police activities including patrol, investigation, making arrests of crime suspects, seizing evidence, and reporting crimes.
Essential Functions:
- Enforce local, State and National laws;
- Patrol the City;
- Provide first aid;
- Respond to citizen reported incidents;
- Conduct interviews at scenes of accidents;
- Conduct crime scene searches;
- Arrest and detain persons;
- Book evidence;
- Make reports of incidents to direct supervisor; control traffic;
- Investigate reported crimes, both at scene and follow-up;
- And appear in court as a witness for the City;
- And other duties as assigned by a supervisor The Police Officer must be able to operate a patrol vehicle, police radio, firearm, handcuffs, baton, and computer keyboard.
- In addition, the Police Officer must be able to communicate verbally and engage in physical activity such as lifting, carrying or dragging heavy persons or objects, climbing or jumping over obstacles and running.
Requirements:
- Two years of college with major course work in Police Science and graduation from an accredited police academy or some other suitable combination of experience and education.
- Lateral entry officers, in addition to the above requirements, should also have a Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate and graduation from an accredited police academy, or some other suitable combination of experience and education.
- Must be able to operate a patrol vehicle, police radio, firearm, handcuffs, baton, and computer keyboard.
- Must be able to communicate verbally and engage in physical activity such as lifter, carrying or dragging heavy persons and objects, climbing or jumping over obstacles, and running.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid California driver’s license.
- Minimum age 18 years old.
