Police Officer/ Academy
Position Summary:
Enforces all state laws, seeks out illegal activities, responds to violations of law. Responds to telephone calls requiring law enforcement, investigates suspicious activity, patrols campus, and attends mandated trainings. Manages traffic, makes lawful arrests, and testifies in legal proceedings.
Essential Functions:
- Develop skills in law enforcement.
- Accompany officers in conducting foot and vehicular patrols of a university campus.
- Build strong relationships in a multi-cultural environment.
- Grow a comprehensive understanding of local, state, and federal laws.
- Gain skills in police reporting, investigation, and court testimony.
- Speak with potential candidates regarding the program over phone, email, and/or department sanctioned social media accounts.
- Attend events including tabling, career fairs, and information sessions to recruit potential new candidates at other campuses and in Pennsylvania.
- Produce written or video materials detailing their experience in the police academy and/or Pitt Police Training Program Salary & Compensation.
- The successful candidate will receive an hourly Academy rate.
- An educational expense agreement will compensate Act 120 Academy Tuition, room, and meal plan.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- No experience required.
- Background investigation & Child Protective Clearances – psychological evaluation – physical & 5 panel drug screen – reading test – physical fitness test (run, pushups-sit-ups must meet 30th percentile or above).
- Final appointment is contingent upon admission to the Act 120 Police Academy at IUP.
- Failing to graduate from the Academy or attaining MPOETC certification within 30 days because of conduct, ethics, or policy violations will result in termination.
