Police Officer
Position Summary:
The selected applicant will be hired as a Police Officer if all Police Officer Standard and Training pre-employment requirements are met at the time of employment.
Academy graduation and subsequent certification is a condition for continued employment. The probationary period for new officers is 6 months. Guards/Officers sign a contract addendum agreeing to repay all associated, initial training costs if they resign within two years of the academy graduation date.
The Police Officer works under general supervision of a shift or operations supervisor and the Director of Public Safety/Chief of Campus Police. The Police Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure campus environment; and the enforcement of University policies, state and local laws.
Essential Functions:
- Crime prevention, campus patrol, radio communications, parking and traffic enforcement, criminal investigations and follow-up, and report writing.
- Provide protection for University persons, property, and guests.
- Maintain surveillance of all areas within department jurisdiction.
- Identify and report hazards to safety and security of the campus.
- Interact with other law enforcement agencies when appropriate.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Required to be 21 years of age or older.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must have no criminal convictions.
- Must pass a psychological examination.
- Must pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the University.
- Must pass a physical examination by a licensed physician at the candidate’s own expense.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must have a telephone for emergency recall by department.
- Essential employee will be required to report to work during emergency or disaster situations.
