Position Summary:

Under general direction of the Police Sergeant, the Police Officer is to perform law enforcement and crime prevention duties to maintain citizen safety, to protect life and property, and comply with Town, State, and Federal laws all in accordance with the Town of Argyle Core Values of Service, Integrity, Leadership, Teamwork, Communication, Continuous Improvement and Professionalism.

Essential Functions:

1. Conducts aggressive patrol in assigned or targeted areas and investigate suspicious activities, individuals or conditions.

2. Makes legal and justified arrests according to policies and procedures.

3. Safely subdues violent individuals.

4. Enforces Town, State and Federal laws.

5. Issues traffic citations or warnings.

6. Investigates traffic accidents and directs traffic

7. Conducts preliminary investigation of crimes and crime scenes and follow-up investigation when assigned.

8. Conducts searches according to due process procedures.

9. Prepares cases and reports and testifies in court

10. Investigates suspicious vehicles and persons.

11. Responds to and investigates causes of mechanical alarms.

12. Processes and transfers prisoners.

13. Checks the security of business establishments and reported vacant houses.

14. Assists in the recovery and control of animals.

15. Directs vehicular and pedestrian traffic at fire scenes.

16. Arrives and is ready for work on time in good physical and mental condition.

17. Prepares property, auto, and supply records.

18. Performs undercover investigative work as assigned.

19. Completes other duties and assignments as directed.

Requirements:

1. TCOLE certified.

2. High School diploma or a GED equivalent.

3. Twenty-one (21) years of age.

4. Maintains valid driver’s license and ability to obtain Texas Drivers’ License within 30 days of hire.

5. Meet minimum hiring standards as outlined in Argyle Police Department Manual.

6. Be of good moral character.

7. Pass a physical assessment.

8. Pass a thorough, comprehensive background investigation.

9. Be physically and mentally sound as determined by the Town physician and psychologist.

10. Be honorably discharged from the military, if applicable.

11. Be physically fit and able to perform the duties of a Police Officer.
