Police Officer
Salary: $21.07 hourly or $43,825.60 annually.
Position Summary:
Responsible for the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, crime investigation, apprehension of criminals, and the enforcement of state laws and municipal ordinances.
Essential Functions:
- Shares communication with prior shift, provides shift briefing, makes assignments of staffing.
- Provides traffic services and traffic enforcement while on patrol.
- Responds to notification of traffic accidents, investigates and completes reports of traffic accidents assuring for timeliness and for safety. Proactively monitors environment focusing on traffic enforcement, traffic hazards, and correction of hazardous situations.
- Responds appropriately to incident/accident assuring that department procedures are followed and assuring for safety and professionalism.
- Patrols assigned area. Investigates offenses and any suspicious conditions, makes arrests, recovers property, transports prisoners to appropriates facilities, and makes out proper reports; testifies in court as required.
- Completes and submits reports to other supervisors, as required, assuring for timeliness and accuracy.
- Responds to serious injury and fatality traffic accidents to conduct and supervise traffic accident investigation and reconstruction of accident.
- Administers appropriate first aid as required.
- Responds to other calls for service as available.
- Responds to radio announced and/or self-identified incident and coordinates with other units as needed.
- Takes appropriate enforcement or control action, as required, assuring that department procedures are followed and assuring for safety.
- Notifies dispatcher of status and begins investigation of offense.
- Completes investigation, makes determination regarding enforcement action required, and completes reports and documentation as required, assuring for timeliness and accuracy.
- Provide for public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing criminal laws, and promoting good community relations. If needed, makes arrest, handles prisoners assuring for officer and public safety, and assuring that department procedures are followed.
- Conducts and completes any required follow up activities.
- Receives assignment and responds, as requested, assuring for professionalism and the best public relations for the City.
- Completes the required log entry, as necessary, assuring for accuracy.
- Responds to citizen’s complaints/concerns regarding traffic issues and work to their best possible resolution.
- Responds appropriately and notifies dispatcher of arrival on scene. Takes appropriate enforcement or control action, as required, assuring that department procedures are followed and assuring for safety.
- Notifies dispatcher of status and begins investigation of offense. Conducts interview and gathers complete picture of the matter.
- Completes investigation, makes determination regarding enforcement action required and completes reports and documentation, as required, assuring for timeliness and accuracy.
- Conducts and completes any required follow-up activities.
- Maintains an awareness of persons who have outstanding warrants and maintains vigilance for such persons and serves warrants, as required, assuring for safety and professionalism and for following prescribed policies and procedures.
- Handles and interacts with prisoners as requested assuring for safety and professionalism and for following prescribed policies and procedures.
- Responds to requests for assistance from other agencies assuring for professionalism and for adherence to department policies and procedures.
- Assists with the maintenance and safeguards vehicles and other department issued supplies and equipment.
- Provides information, makes presentations relating to traffic issues as required assuring for professionalism.
- Assists organizations in community activities assuring for the best public relations for the City.
- Monitors and maintains specialized equipment.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One to two years related experience and/or training.
- Current and valid Missouri driver license.
- Must be 21 years of age, U.S. citizen.
- Non-convicted felon.
- Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission.
- The candidate is required to submit to drug/alcohol screening and full background investigation.
- Completed certification in one or more aspects of departmental operations if assigned.
