Position Summary:

Within our community, our officers are responsible for the maintenance of order, enforcement of laws, protection of life and property, and assisting in the investigation of criminal offenses, accidents, or other police-related situations.
Essential Functions:
- Performs proactive patrols in assigned areas, through traffic control enforcement, traffic crash investigation, first responder medical response, criminal investigation and arrest of persons involved in crimes or misconduct.
- Carries out law enforcement duties in accordance with Local, State and Federal laws.
- Exercise sound judgment in deciding course of action while concurrently handling difficult and emergency situations without assistance.
- Prepares a variety of reports and records, including calls for service, criminal investigations, vehicle crashes, suspicious incidents, radar and LIDAR logs, and various other written reports.
- Patrols city streets, parks, residential and commercial areas to preserve the peace and enforce the law, control vehicular traffic, prevent or detect and investigate misconduct involving misdemeanors, felonies and other law violations.
- Responds to emergency radio calls and investigates accidents, robberies, civil disturbances, domestic disputes, fights, intoxication/impairment, missing children, prowlers, abuse of drugs, etc. Takes appropriate law enforcement action.
- Undertakes community oriented and problem solving policing work with the aid of data-driven systems. Answers questions from the public on phone or in person such as project status, complaints, law interpretation, or refers to proper agency.
- Faces dangerous situations and is prepared to deescalate and use the appropriate level of force as necessary.
- Proactively enforces laws to include but not limited to; car registrations, warrants, firearms, and issues citations or other illegal violations.
- Monitors crime areas in your assigned patrol zone.
- Completes routine, non-emergency reports through preliminary investigations and reports to include: interviewing suspects, witnesses, citizens, victims, specialists, and other individuals as necessary. Takes written and oral statements from victims, witnesses, and suspects. Develops leads and tips. Searches scene of crimes for physical evidence. Preserves and processes evidence. Analyzes and evaluates evidence and arrests offenders. Prepares cases for giving testimony and testifies in court proceedings.
- Interrogates suspects and takes sworn statements, formal confessions or depositions; testifies at trials, hearings or grand juries.
- Maintains skills proficiency in accordance with POST licensing requirements.
Requirements:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field
- P.O.S.T. eligible within two months of application date
- Ability to work weekends, after hours, and/or on-call
