Salary: $28.69/hour – $37.00/hour.

Position Summary:

The Kennebunk Police Department (KPD) is accepting applications for a full-time Police Officer, K-9 Handler. This unique opportunity will allow the newly hired officer to be involved in the selection process of a new K-9, and will be expected to attend the Maine State Police K-9 Academy in 2024, with the goal of obtaining duel certification in Patrol work & drug detection. This officer will have a take-home car and other benefits associated with being a K-9 handler. Police Officers work a varied schedule of 4 days/week, 10 hours/shift, with 3 days off per work period.


  1. Have passed the Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s Basic Law Enforcement Training Program, or be eligible to receive a waiver from MCJA;
  2. Have passed the MCJA ALERT test, as well as their Law Enforcement Pre-service Training Program, or be eligible to receive a waiver from MCJA;
  3. Be a minimum age of 21 years old (or 20 years old with at least 60 college credit hours);
  4. Have a minimum of two (2) years of college (with at least 60 credit hours), and preferably hold an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field. Consideration may be given to applicants who have a high school education and at least two (2) years of full-time or reserve police officer experience;
  5. Possess a valid driver’s license;
  6. Pass a thorough background and financial check, polygraph exam, and psychological test;
  7. Be in good physical condition/health; and
  8. Pass a physical agility assessment test at the 50th percentile.
