Compensation: $53,000.00 annually

The Jonestown Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.  Jonestown, “The Gateway to the Hill Country”, is located about 20 miles northwest of Austin, on the north shores of Lake Travis.  It’s a rural residential and lake community with a population of approximately 2,100.  The growing city is a host to several events and festivals throughout the year and manages seven parks.

Duties as a Jonestown Police Officer include, but are not limited to:

  1. Patrolling assigned area by vehicle, boat, jet ski, bicycle, or by foot to prevent crimes and enforce laws and ordinances, and to protect citizens and property
  2. Direct and escort traffic
  3. Operate traffic monitoring equipment
  4. Issue traffic citations and investigate traffic accidents
  5. Respond to emergency calls and complaints
  6. Assist in criminal investigations, including preparing probable cause affidavits
  7. Question witnesses, complainants, and suspects
  8. Take statements and depositions
  9. Keep records of activities and make reports concerning crimes, complaints, accidents, and investigations
  10. Patrol waters of Lake Travis in an effort to gain compliance with Texas Water Safety Act
  11. Testify in Court
  12. Be active in community programs and events to promote community involvement with the police department

Minimum Requirements:


  1. Must be 21 years of age with a current TCOLE license
  2. Must be a United States Citizen
  3. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license
  4. Must NOT have been discharged from any military service under less than honorable conditions, specifically:  under other than honorable conditions, bad conduct, dishonorable, or any other characterization service indicating bad behavior
  5. Cannot have violated any TCOLE rule or provision of Texas Occupation Code, Chapter 1701
  6. Must be of good moral character
  7. Must be capable of performing all essential job functions
  8. Must successfully complete the following:  thorough background investigation, interview, and provide supporting documents
