Police Officer
Position Summary:
To protect life and property of the University community and its visitors by providing law enforcement services, traffic and crowd control, and fire prevention and safety.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to successfully complete associated field training within one year of employment.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to deal effectively with individuals and groups.
- Ability to collect and assemble pertinent facts, to exercise tact, initiative, ingenuity, resourcefulness, and good judgment in handling law enforcement matters.
- Ability to write clear and concise reports.
- Demonstrated computer experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with a culturally diverse department and University community.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activities such as running, lifting, jumping, bicycling, and climbing.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply state laws and University regulation, law enforcement techniques, procedures, operations and investigations, safety and security methods, crime prevention techniques and positive community relations.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience working at a university or college institution or municipal public safety agency in a public safety capacity.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree or 60 credit hours towards a degree program.
