Police Officer
Salary: $30.55 – $47.03 Hourly
Position Summary:
This entry level class is characterized by immediate responsibility for preservation of County property, security and enforcement of Nevada statutes, County ordinances, and rules and regulations. Under general supervision the incumbent will participate in field training and an evaluation program, patrol County parks and other County facilities, assist the public, make arrests, control crime, prevent or detect violations of law, and enforce state and local laws.
Essential Functions:
- Provides information and appropriate assistance concerning County programs and facilities; explains and interprets County rules and regulations, County ordinances, state statutes, etc.;
- l provides reports as required to supervisor’s office;
- Patrols parks and other County facilities for the purpose of assisting the public, making arrests or issuing citations for major violations on foot and by vehicle, controlling crime, preventing or detecting violations of law, and enforcing state and local laws;
- Performs investigative duties regarding complaints and incidents; assists other law enforcement agencies when necessary;
- Provides crowd and traffic control coverage at special events and assigned activities;
- Assists and provides appropriate first aid and CPR;
- Writes detailed reports on all accidents, arrest reports, other necessary reports; testifies in court when necessary;
- Transports and books arrested persons;
- Responds to emergencies at park locations and County facilities as necessary;
- Drives a County vehicle to transport persons, travel to various locations, respond to emergency situations, and conduct law enforcement duties; uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; performs other similar and related duties as required.
Requirements:
- Must carry a firearm and meet and maintain applicable certification.
- Must work for extended periods of time outdoors and in potentially life-threatening situations.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada State Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Category I Certification or have completed a certified Nevada Peace Academy Category I training program at time of application.
- Must be capable of passing Nevada P.O.S.T. Category I State Physical Fitness Examination as defined by NAC 289.205.
- Must meet the minimum standards for appointment as defined in NAC 289.110.
- Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver’s license at time of appointment.
- Is a citizen of the United States.
- Is at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
