Salary: $42,640.00.

Position Summary:

Under general supervision of the Police Sergeant, provides safety and security to citizens within the community through the patrolling of neighborhoods, enforcement of laws and ordinances, apprehension of suspects and response to public assistance calls.

Essential Functions:

  • Patrols assigned area looking for unusual or suspicious activities or persons; operates police vehicle; and
    provides back-up assistance to co-workers.
  • Enforces local, state and federal laws and regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency incident calls such as theft, disturbances, vandalism, alarms,
    burglary and robbery; investigates calls: conducts interviews with victims and suspects; completes reports and necessary paperwork.
  • Performs traffic enforcement; investigates traffic accidents and driving under the Influence (DUI) cases, and
    completes related reports.
  • May conduct investigations into criminal activities such as narcotics or sex crimes; may participate in Federal
    task forces; coordinates activities and investigations with other agencies.
  • May perform functions as a school resource officer; participates in and presents preventative education and
    information through community and school awareness projects; teaches and counsels those within the community on law enforcement activities, programs and referral resources.
  • Represents the Department at court hearings; prepares department materials requested and/or subpoenaed by the courts; and testifies in court cases.
  • Identifies, attends and conducts training and educational programs and seminars.
  • Maintains police vehicle and equipment in clean and operating order.
  • Interacts with other police personnel, City departments, outside organizations and businesses, and federal,
    state and local organizations in order to accomplish tasks.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent GED Certificate;
  • State of Arizona class D driver’s license;
  • State of Arizona Police Officer Certification, or ability to obtain; must pass comprehensive background and criminal history checks.
  • Must pass a strenuous physical agility test, written exam, oral board, physical examination, polygraph examination, and drug/alcohol screening.
