Description

The Manteca Police Department is currently accepting applications of those currently enrolled in the academy, academy graduates and lateral police officers.

Under the direction of a Police Captain, perform police protection and other law enforcement services to safeguard the lives, property and constitutional rights of the citizens of Manteca; respond to crime and accident scenes, emergency situations and other requests for assistance; detect, apprehend and arrest criminals; enforce the laws and ordinances of the City, County and State.

Assignment

Full-time, 12 months per year (includes nights, weekends, and holidays), in 4/10-hr shifts. Patrol shifts typically rotate every six months. All police candidates are required to successfully complete a comprehensive POST approved in-service field training program. Twelve-month probationary period for lateral officers, 18-month probationary period for academy graduates. This position is represented by the Peace Officers Association (POA) employee bargaining unit.

Salary and Benefits

$87,924.10 – $123,717.98 Annually ($129,978.10 annually at end of current contract, 2025)

Lateral Officers are hired at Step C, $98,879 annual (base)

    • $103,822.95 w/ Intermediate POST or Associates Degree (for laterals)
    • $108,766.90 w/ Advanced POST or Bachelor Degree (for laterals)
    • *Certification/education stipends are applied upon proof
    • CalPERS Retirement: 3% @ 55 For Classic Members; 2.7% @ 57 New CalPERS Members

Qualifications

  • Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school.
  • Valid California Class C driver’s license

Graduation from a POST approved Basic Police Academy. Must meet minimum requirements for peace officer set by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Must have vision correctable to 20/30 by glasses or contact lenses and free from significant color blindness; minimum age 21 years at the time of appointment.

Must successfully complete a background investigation, which shall include a polygraph and psychological examination, physical standards testing and a California Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
