Essential Functions:
- Officers respond to complaints and requests from the University Community. Officers generate reports, arrest or administratively handle complaints. Officers generate field contacts, self initiated activities and respond to radio dispatched calls. Be a part of one of the nation’s premier campus law enforcement agencies at VCU Police.
Requirements:
- Multifaceted Ability to function both mentally and physically under stress and emergency situations
- Successfully obtain certification as Campus Police Officer as required by the Department of Criminal Justice Services
- Must have the ability to handle firearms (no experience necessary) and operate a motor vehicle safely
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Ability to work in a high-stress environment with a multifaceted population
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to work shifts with varying days off, including work on nights, weekends, and/or holidays
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Possess a valid state driver’s license and a good driving record
- U.S. Citizenship is required
- A credit history check and clean criminal record with no convictions for felonies, domestic violence or crimes of moral turpitude
- Must pass a physical and mental health evaluation
- Must pass a drug test, polygraph test, and written test
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
