Police Officer
Position Summary:
Performs police patrol, investigation, traffic regulations, and related law enforcement activities. Works under the supervision of the Police Sergeant.
Essential Functions:
- Performs duty required o f a Public Safety Officer for an eight-hour shift during a 24 hour on duty period.
- May direct, monitor and participate in the care of the ill and injured, while in the prehospital phase of emergency care.
- Performs road patrol, back up, running radar, issuing citations and performing those duties as set out or all other Officers.
- Carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County and Town laws and ordinances.
- Responds to emergency radio calls and investigates accidents, robberies, civil disturbances, domestic disputes, fights, etc. Takes appropriate law enforcement action.
- Involves the pursuit, apprehension and arrest of law violators or suspected law violators.
- Interrogates suspects, witnesses and drivers.
- Conducts follow-up investigations of crimes committed during shift.
- Prepares a variety of reports and records.
- Undertakes community oriented police work.
- Responds to medical emergencies, accidents and fire and other calls.
- Performs other as required, assigned, and directed.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Certification by the Criminal Justice Standard and Training Commission or equivalent, or ability to obtain in a timely manner at the department’s discretion;
- Minimum of two years work experience as a fully commissioned police officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State Driver’s License.
- Ability to meet department’s physical standards.
