Hiring Rate: $52,763 annually

MAJOR FUNCTIONS: This is responsible police work providing protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Performs all work under the supervision of the Police Sergeant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Enforces laws and ordinances; patrols assigned areas; controls traffic; prevents crime; serves warrants and arrests violators. Operates police radio to maintain communications with dispatch. Responds to complaints and incidents (e.g., traffic accidents, criminal activities or violations); secures incident scene to restore peace, assists with injured persons, and protects evidence and property; takes detailed statements from witnesses and suspects; and testifies in court proceedings. Performs other non-essential duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of principles, methods, practices, rules, regulations, procedures and operations of law enforcement.
  • Ability to work under stress; ability to remain in good physical condition, and ability to
    establish and build effective relations with city employees and the public is essential.
  • High school graduation or GED. Eligibility for certification as a police officer by the FDLE
    Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission is required.
  • The successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment physical and drug
    screening, background investigation, psychological assessment, polygraph, as well as other
    pre-employment reviews.
