Performs basic protective services work involving a variety of general or support duty police assignments including enforcing laws, investigating criminal activity, ensuring public safety, maintaining records and files, testifying in court, preparing reports, and related work as required. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Police Chief and/ or Police Sergeant.
The St. Joseph Police Department consists of eight sworn peace officers, one non-sworn support staff, and up to nine voluntary reserves. Within the department, the city has a police chief, patrol sergeant, and five patrol officers. The department services the 6,579 residents, providing 24-hour protection, 365 days a year.
The departments mission is to provide a safe environment so that the residents of St. Joseph enhancing the quality of life for families and business alike. The department focus on community policing, integrating officers into the community to reduce crime and foster community relations.

• Associates/Technical degree with coursework in criminal justice, or related field
• Post Board Certified
• Complete and satisfy all requirements as they pertain to the appointment of police officers. Such requirements are embodied in rules and standards promulgated by the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training Board or in opinions issued by the Minnesota State Attorney General.
