Salary: $55,473.00 – $71,718.00 Annually.

Position Summary:

Works under the direct supervision of a Police Sergeant or superior officer who assigns work details and reviews work for conformance to laws and departmental policies, rules, and regulations, and under the authority of the Chief of Police.

Supervision is not a normal responsibility of positions in this class. However, assignments may include field training officer responsibility, supervision of police reserves and other volunteers, and “Acting Supervisor” in the absence of the Sergeant.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs peace officer functions of law enforcement and crime prevention work including patrol and investigation.
  • Controls traffic, and enforces state and local traffic regulations and other ordinances and laws.
  • Works directly with citizens in the areas of criminal and civil law enforcement.
  • Incumbents in this position may be required to work rotating shifts and days off as designated or assigned.
  • Performs related work as required including planning and research.

Requirements:

  • Experience involving public contact.
  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent GED certificate.
  • Previous experience in law enforcement and/or college-level law enforcement-related courses is desired but not required.
  • Possession of a degree in police science is desired but not required.
  • Any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training which ensures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above.
  • Possession of or the ability to secure a valid Oregon driver’s license.
  • Possession of or the ability to secure the Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced Certificate from the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.
