Police Officer
Salary: $46,732 – $49,592.
Position Summary:
Police Officers are under the direct supervision of their shift Corporal and Sergeant. Police Officers are responsible for providing for public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing criminal laws and/or city ordinances, and promoting good community relations. Officers shall become familiar with places of public assembly, official buildings, and crime prone areas. Officers shall properly investigate all cases assigned to them, including apprehension of the offender, collection of evidence, recovery of property, and preparation of the case for prosecution.
Essential Functions:
- Enforce all laws and/or ordinances that the Tullahoma Police Department is responsible for which includes, but is not limited, to protecting the lives and property of all persons and maintaining peace and order in the City of Tullahoma
- Maintain a police presence while driving a patrol car in any assigned location of the City of Tullahoma in order to deter criminal activity at the discretion of their supervisor.
- Investigate suspicious persons and situations and unusual or illegal activity including any situations that come
about as a complaint from a citizen or call for service. - Perform any necessary physical action so that suspects can be controlled and apprehended for the safety of the community.
- Arrest and incarcerate persons in accordance with legal requirements and Tullahoma Police Department general orders.
- Monitor traffic and enforce laws and ordinances to ensure motorists observe traffic regulations and exhibit safe
driving procedures. - Control and direct the flow of vehicle traffic as necessary within the City of Tullahoma.
- Accurately prepare and promptly submit any and all required reports that come as the result of any official investigation or assignment.
- Respond to calls for service in a safe manner within the assigned area of responsibility.
- Perform preliminary and follow-up investigations of criminal and traffic offenses which are assigned to and/or
brought to the attention of the officer. - Assist the Criminal Investigation Division in securing any and all crime scenes and evidence as needed including interviewing principals and witnesses.
- Prepare cases for court and Grand Jury and testify to present evidence or act as witness in traffic and criminal cases.
- Observe any and all radio transmissions and adhere to an attitude of professionalism while operating/transmitting on the radio.
- Obtain and serve criminal warrants and juvenile petitions as required.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED, college course or degree preferred.
- POST certification required. Must attain within one year of employment or promotion.
- Minimum age 21 years.
- Must not have a prior record of criminal activity.
- Qualifications as outlined in the Tennessee Code Annotated.
