Police Officer
Position Summary:
The Police Officer at Taylor University enforces local, state, and federal laws while ensuring compliance with university policies. Responsibilities include providing security for personnel, real property, and equipment. The officer also investigates and documents incidents or crimes, preserves evidence, and provides legal testimony. Additionally, they actively participate in foot and vehicular security patrols, enforce traffic and parking regulations, and assist local, state, and federal law enforcement agents when needed. The role emphasizes commitment to Taylor’s mission and values, including faith-based principles and community service.
Essential Functions:
- Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the University’s Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University.
- Responsible for all operations of the TUPD in the absence/unavailability of the Chief and/or Deputy Chief.
- Actively participates in foot and vehicular security/safety patrols.
- Monitor and enforce university traffic and parking regulations on university owned property.
- Attend and complete approved professional certification, educational seminars and conferences designed to improve job performance at the request of the Chief and/or Deputy Chief.
- Report security/safety concerns and strategic input for resolution to the Chief and/or Deputy Chief in a timely manner.
- Participate in security patrols and proactive criminal preventative methods and responds to emergency and non-emergency calls in accordance with training guidelines.
- Investigate criminal and inappropriate behavior by person(s) on campus and reports findings to the Chief and/or Deputy Chief in a timely manner.
- Provide assistance to local, state and federal law enforcement agents in situations that involve crimes committed against or involving members of the Taylor University community and/or university owned property.
- Actively support and follow the rules, regulations and policies of the TUPD and Taylor University.
- Support and enforce the statutes/laws for the State of Indiana as needed in circumstances of criminal investigations and other occurrences on university owned property requiring police intervention including, but not limited to: reports of crime (subsequent report writing), traffic accidents (subsequent state accident reports), arrest scenarios, and response to crime/emergencies in progress.
- Remain available to respond to all university related emergencies.
- Attend regularly scheduled department meetings, staff meetings and other expectations of Taylor University staff unless excused in advance by the Chief and/or Deputy Chief.
- Accept additional responsibilities as assigned by the Chief and/or Deputy Chief.
Requirements:
- Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) certificated.
- 5+ years of experience preferred.
