Police Officer
The Langston University Police Department is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by at least one officer on duty. The police staff currently includes 15 certified peace officers who are sworn to enforce federal, state, and local laws on campus. The Langston University Police Department is also charged to enforce the traffic and parking regulations within the campus jurisdiction. It is the mission of the Langston University Police Department to encourage the maintenance of a safe and secure environment for the campus community in which it serves, thereby advocating that safety is the responsibility of every member of the Langston University community.
Hiring Range: (Contingent upon available funding): 35,000.00
Position Summary:
- Provide campus safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting good community relations.
- Record facts to prepare reports that document incidents and activities. Monitor, report, and investigate suspicious persons and situations, safety hazards, and unusual or illegal activity in patrol area.
- Identify, pursue, and arrest suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts. Review facts of incidents to determine if criminal act or statute violations were involved.
- Render aid to accident victims and other persons requiring first aid for physical injuries. Investigate traffic accidents and other accidents to determine causes and to determine if a crime has been committed. Cooperate with other law enforcement officials.
