Police Officer
Salary: $32.83 – $48.51 Hourly

Position Summary:
To assure law and order within City limits through enforcement of laws and ordinances, protect life and property, prevent and investigate crime, and control traffic.
Essential Functions:
- Patrol assigned areas to ensure security of life and property, observe situations, and deter crime by providing high visibility.
- Respond to suspicious activities and answer emergency calls for service, including burglary reports, domestic disputes, robbery reports and crimes in progress.
- Conduct preliminary investigations of disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, thefts, robbery, vehicle accidents, deaths and suicides, suspicious persons and circumstances.
- Render first aid.
- Report hazards and disperse unruly crowds at gatherings.
- Make arrests when laws and ordinances have been violated.
- Control and direct traffic.
- Issue traffic citations.
- Respond to radio calls for service.
- Pursue and apprehend suspects, request assistance as necessary.
- Investigate juvenile and designated adult criminal activity and incidents.
- Coordinate crime scene control and investigation, including interviews and interrogations, identification of witnesses.
- Oversee collection and preservation of physical evidence.
- Restore order, protect life and property, and maintain the peace at public gatherings and in conflict situations.
- Prepare and document cases, complete reports and records, prepare and maintain other logs and records.
- Supervise juveniles on probation.
- Retrieve, identify, and return found property and/or evidence to owners.
- Provide emergency aid and assistance to incapacitated persons and request additional assistance.
- Provide information, directions, and other services and assistance to the public.
- Testify in court, as subpoenaed.
- Conduct background investigations of prospective police applicants as assigned.
- Cooperate with other law enforcement agencies in matters relating to investigation of crimes and apprehension of offenders.
- Respond to fire aid calls and assist in crowd and traffic control.
- Serve warrants and subpoenas.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Possession of Basic Certificate as issued by the State Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.)
- Possession of valid Class C Driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Minimum age-21 years by time of appointment.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to pass an intensive background investigation and psychological evaluation and physical exam.
