Police Officer
Salary:
- Non-Certified: $41,322.
- Certified: $47,991.
Position Summary:
The Police Officer works under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant. Performs responsible protective service work in the Police Department. The work involves an element of personal danger.
Essential Functions:
- On an assigned shift, operates a patrol vehicle or walks to observe for various violations of traffic laws, suspicious activities or persons and disturbances of law and order.
- Respond to radio dispatches and answers calls and complaints.
- Serve warrants and makes arrests.
- Testifies in court.
- Provides police escorts.
- Directs traffic.
- Observes traffic control measures and recommends improvements.
- Performs special assignments.
- Reports unsafe conditions existing in streets or other public facilities.
- Assists with criminal investigations by presenting evidence, interviewing victims and witnesses, preparing property and evidence duties, recording and issuing evidence in court cases.
- Prepares detailed reports.

Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age by application deadline.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in a Criminal Justice related field and Virginia Law Enforcement Officer Certification preferred.
- Bilingual is a preferred skill.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must pass written tests, physical agility assessment, background investigation, physical examination and drug screen.
