Salary: As of January 2026, the compensation range is a 5-step plan ranging from entry level, $88,088 to a top level of $110,164.
Laterals: Prior law enforcement experience is given consideration when determining the level of compensation in the 5-step plan.
Position Summary
Police Officers serve the community by enforcing state and local laws, protecting life and property, and providing professional, community-focused service. Officers respond to calls for service, conduct thorough investigations, and complete accurate reports in a timely manner. This position requires integrity, strong decision-making skills, and a commitment to the department’s values of Responsiveness, Diligence, and Resoluteness.

Qualifications:
Duties & Responsibilities
- Enforce Colorado Revised Statutes and local ordinances.
- Strong knowledge of Colorado laws, criminal and traffic statutes, and department policies.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
- Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations from initiation to case disposition.
- Interview victims, witnesses, suspects, and involved parties.
- Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed written reports.
- Testify in municipal, county, and state courts, as well as DMV hearings, as required.
- Perform traffic enforcement, investigate traffic crashes, and issue citations when necessary.
- Safely operate a patrol vehicle and maintain proficiency with firearms, defensive tactics, and other police equipment.
- Engage with the community and provide high-quality service consistent with department values.
- Work rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Requirements
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Current Colorado P.O.S.T. Basic Peace Officer Certification, or eligibility for certification through out-of-state reciprocity.
- Valid Colorado driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (or ability to obtain one prior to appointment).
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to engage with the community.
- Experience in community service, public relations, social work, or related fields is beneficial.
