Police Officer
Salary: $68,099 – $71,510 ($32.74 – $34.38)
Position Summary:
Plays a pivotal role in maintaining law and order within the municipality. Responsible for enforcing municipal laws and ordinances, this role emphasizes crime prevention, protection of people and property, and prompt response to emergencies. Must exercise independent judgment in diverse scenarios and ensure comprehensive documentation related to criminal or public safety incidents.
Essential Functions:
- Crime Management and Reduction: Regularly patrol streets, parks, commercial, and residential areas to prevent or detect crime. Investigate law violations ranging from misdemeanors to felonies.
- Emergency Response: Swiftly react to emergency calls, ranging from vehicular accidents, robberies, civil disturbances to domestic violence. Address and manage scenes of attempted or observed crimes.
- Documentation and Reporting: Precisely document evidence, circumstances, and actions regarding potential or actual criminal violations. Compile information and draft comprehensive reports on various topics such as investigation findings, field interrogations, accident scenes, and potential public safety hazards.
- Traffic Regulation and Enforcement: Enforce traffic and parking regulations, issuing citations to violators. Conduct inspections of vehicles for state registration, serial numbers, and other vital information. Operate speed-detecting radar devices.
- Narcotics Crimes Assistance: Aid officers in handling narcotics-related crimes. Use experience in drug interdiction and investigations to address narcotics-related issues.
- Law and Statute Enforcement: Make decisions aligned with federal, state, county, and city laws and ordinances. Familiarize oneself with various aspects of criminal law, including the Texas Education Code, Texas Family Code, City policies and ordinances, Texas Peace Officers manual.
- Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- TCOLE Certification required at time of conditional offer of employment.
- Valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record
- H.S. Diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Must pass written exam and physical fitness test consisting of a row on a Concept 2 rowing machine.
- Must successfully pass physical examination, psychological testing, polygraph, thorough background investigation and oral review board.
- Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment and random drug screening.
- Must complete a City of Tomball application to be considered.
