Police Lieutenant of Patrol
Salary: $54,310 – $75,000
Position Summary:
The Town of Aberdeen Police Department is currently seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill the position of Police Lieutenant of Patrol. Primary responsibilities of the job will be to provide leadership for the Patrol Division and assist in the staffing, training, development, promotion, evaluation and discipline of the division’s staff. The Lieutenant will be expected to assist in leading the Patrol Division in preventing crime or injury, discovering commission of crimes, and providing the highest level of customer service to the citizens and visitors of Aberdeen. The Lieutenant will work with the Patrol Captain, Deputy Police Chief, and Police Chief on the development, implementation and enforcement of all police department policies and practices, and assist with various other internal administrative duties.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in NC Law Enforcement
- Must possess Intermediate Law Enforcement Certificate, Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate preferred
- Must be a Field Training Officer and successfully completed First Line Supervision
- Prior supervisor experience required; Ability to supervise division staff, effectively supervise employees, and maintain positive relationships is required
- Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of law enforcement administration and management techniques
- Effective understanding of the technical and administrative phases of crime prevention through the community policing application inclusive of investigations, identification, patrol, and the integrity toward custody of persons and property
- Ability to complete performance evaluations for division staff and provide progressive disciplinary action when needed
- Ability to conduct public meetings
- Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Must be free of any disciplinary action within past year
Preferred Requirements:
- Preferred Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, or related field and considerable experience (5+ years) of a progressively responsible sworn position in law enforcement or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Preferred candidate should have some sort of Executive Police Leadership training (LEEP, Paul Cash Leadership Management, Leadership Institute, LEEDA Trilogy, and/or Management Development Program) or ability to obtain within 12 months
