Salary: $39,819.55 – $42,598.40 Annually.

Position Summary:

We are looking for an Investigative Assistant to join the City of Charleston’s Police Department! In this role, you will monitor and review CCTV video within the department’s real time crime center for situational awareness and investigative support.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for performing non-sworn police assistance.
  • Reviews video and photographic images captured by a series of cameras at intersections throughout the city.
  • Researches motor vehicle and owner records on county and state databases as well as on the Department’s Records Management System via a computer.
  • Helps prepare materials for detectives, investigators, and police officers that will assist with investigations and for court and courtroom testimony.
  • Maintains written and computer logs and records.
  • Communicates with dispatchers, patrol officers and command staff regarding information gathered; using a police mobile or portable radio.
  • Maintains the integrity of all investigative information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency and 3 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar software.
  • Ability to use Internet based computer applications.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Considerable knowledge of the geography of the city and surrounding areas.
