Police Dispatcher
Salary: $30,045 – $35,349
Position Summary:
Monitor a variety of alarm equipment and operate a computerized dispatch system including a voice radio in receiving and transmitting messages regarding routine and emergency district police security services; maintain a variety of logs and records. Access, retrieve, disseminate, and protect confidential law enforcement-related data from a variety of protected local, state, and federal databases.
Essential Functions:
- Operate and maintain various types of communication, alarm, and recording equipment.
- Receiving telephone calls from district employees and the general public reporting irregularities, incidents, and emergencies at schools and other district property and facilities and disseminate information.
- Dispatch and monitor campus officers, patrol units and other local police agencies.
- Exercise initiative and independent judgment in assessing alarm and other emergency or routine situations and notify appropriate district personnel or other agencies.
- Operate a voice radio console to maintain two-way communication with school police services personnel, and other local agencies.
- Communicate regularly with site staff in researching alarm information.
- Prepare records and reports of departmental activities and maintain departmental files.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or designee.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Any combination of training, experience /or education equivalent to three years recent, fulltime or part-time experience in radio dispatching, public emergency information systems, or law enforcement. Equivalent experience in a high-volume, multi-line phone system.
- Criminal background checks shall be conducted on all personnel who have access to the computerized system, its terminals, and/or the stored criminal offender record information, pursuant to all federal and state requirements.
- Will be approved to operate TCIC/NCIC equipment.
- Possession of our ability to readily obtain TCOLE Basic Telecommunicator License, TCIC and NCIC certifications.
