Police Detective
Salary: $26.50 and $36.75
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Captain of the Patrol Division, the Detective is a sworn police officer who oversees and conducts various criminal and non-criminal investigations.
Essential Functions:
- Meets and works with campus and community members, community groups, and other
- agencies to identify problems and assist with development of solutions through appropriate
- crime prevention strategies and community-orientated practices;
- Conducts criminal and non-criminal investigations and coordinates with law enforcement
- agencies as necessary;
- Prepares written case reports and conducts follow-up investigations as assigned reporting
- findings to the Captain of the Patrol Division;
- Examines crime scenes to obtain clues and gather evidence;
- Supervises and assists with processing crime scenes through collection, preservation,
- documentation, and analysis of evidence;
- Uses technology and police information to develop information and leads to further open
- and active cases;
- Provides timely police information and crime analysis information to the Captain of the
- Patrol Division;
- Presents judicial cases and provides testimony to the university judicial board or local
- criminal court as needed;
- Conducts surveillance;
- Assists with administrative investigations to include pre-employment backgrounds of
- Bradley University Police Department applicants and internal investigations;
- Works flexible hours including evenings, nights, and weekends as required;
- Attends detective related professional development opportunities which may involve travel;
- Functions as a University Police Officer as needed or assigned;
- Meets and works with campus and community members, community groups, and other
- agencies to identify problems and assist with development of solutions through appropriate
- crime prevention strategies and community-orientated practices;
- Services as a liaison with external investigative agencies including but not limited to the
- Peoria Police Department, Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Federal
- Bureau of Investigation, and the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office;
- Promotes the vision, mission, goals, and values of Bradley University and the Bradley
- University Police Department; and
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school degree/completion or equivalent;
- Attainment of a law enforcement officer certification through the Illinois Law Enforcement
- Training and Standards Board within 12 months of hire;
- Five (5) years or more of police related work experience;
- Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of constituents both verbally and in writing;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team;
- Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Strong interpersonal skills and facility to build working partnerships with all members
- (students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests) of the internal campus community, as well as
- external parties including neighbors/local residents, city officials, municipal/county/state
- police agencies, local health services, first responders, and members of the media;
- Availability for evening and/or weekend work as necessary;
- Proven record of attendance and reliability; and
- Demonstrate a high level of professional ethics and personal integrity.
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree;
- Ten (10) years or more of police related work experience; and
- Prior investigative experience.
